The other insight that transformed my habit practice is that consistency matters more than intensity. A five-minute meditation practice done every day builds more identity than a forty-five-minute session done sporadically. Small habits don't require motivation to maintain, which means they're more sustainable. And the identity reinforcement from showing up every day—even briefly—is more powerful than occasional heroic efforts.
